Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine work-family interaction, causal effects on work-family interaction, job satisfaction and family satisfaction in Thai registered nurses. The study was designed as quantitative research from October to November 2008. The 576 samples were simple random sampling from registered nurses working in hospitals under the jurisdiction of Medial Service Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The structural equation model was developed by LISREL program.
The study revealed that registered nurses reported significantly greater work-family conflict than family-work conflict, and greater positive work-family interaction than negative work-family interaction. The work-family interaction model was a high quality model because the model was fit to empirical data and all observational variables were significantly related to latent variables. The work-family interaction model showed work and family resource favorably effect work-family facilitation and family-work facilitation in the supportive way, but inversely effect work-family conflict and family-work conflict. Moreover, work-family facilitation and family-work facilitation produced nurses’job and family satisfaction. But work-family conflict and family-work conflict inversely led to nurses’ job and family satisfaction. This study, however, found that work and family demand gave inverse effect to family-work conflict, which was different from previous studies.
